A Note From Catarina

Travelling is such a ride! Looking back at all these photos, I realise how lucky I am to have dived into so many different cultures and experiences. Now that me and my husband are travelling with our son, things move at a much slower pace, but we still drag him along everywhere! Even if he doesn’t remember it, we’re hoping these epic adventures stick with him somehow. Whether we’re in a no-frills treehouse or a ridiculously over-the-top hotel, I’m just as happy–I want to experience it all!

Algar Seco, Carvoeiro, Portugal

This rock formation facing the sea in my hometown is like nature’s own art installation. And the sunsets it serves up? Pure magic. I’ve been coming here since I was a little girl; the sound of the ocean and the wide-open view never fail to snap me out of whatever chaos I’m in. If you’re braver than I am, you can even take the leap and jump off the rocks into the sea!

Harlosh Black H, Isle of Skye, Scotland

A minimalist house in the middle of nowhere on the Isle of Skye, this is where my husband proposed, so it’s pretty special to me. Besides that, the quiet and remoteness make it the perfect place to unplug. The floor-to-ceiling glass wall in front of the bed gives you an amazing view of the sea – like nature’s own movie. When we visited, the weather was rough, but it made the place feel even cosier, like the universe was adding a little extra charm.

Relais La Foleia, Veruno, Italy

Work takes me to some pretty spectacular places. I went to Relais La Foleia on a press trip with three girlfriends, and I’ve never been anywhere quite like it. It made me feel like a fairy in an enchanted forest. The place has a magical vibe, with decor that’s the perfect mix of modern flair and rustic charm. Honestly, if Heaven looks anything like this, sign me up.

Malhadinha Nova, Alentejo, Portugal

Malhadinha Nova holds a special place in my heart. It’s down in southern Portugal, where half of my family hails from, and I’ve been visiting since I was a kid. I’ve watched it evolve into an amazing hotel and winery. The vibe here is all about preserving the land and traditions, but let’s be real, there’s nowhere chicer to unwind. The place is huge, with different properties scattered around, so you get all the privacy you need to truly relax. Plus, they make some of the best wine your tastebuds will ever experience.

Kasbah Bab Ourika, Morocco

Kasbah Bab Ourika is in the Atlas Mountains, and it’s a trip. Picture this: I’m lounging in the pool in a bikini, and I can see snow-capped mountains in the distance – talk about a wild contrast! The hotel’s aesthetic is gorgeous, and the views are absolutely breathtaking.

An Airbnb tree house, Porte-de-Benauge, France

When my son was about eight months old, we decided to drive across Europe with our dog in tow. We didn’t plan much, just went with the flow, which of course led to some epic mishaps. But then we stumbled upon a treehouse on Airbnb, and staying there was unreal. We were so in tune with nature, and the night sky was packed with stars: you forget what that looks like living in London. It was a super low-key spot, very remote, but the Wi-Fi was somehow better than what we have at home. Ha!

Cave House, Villarrubia, Spain

This house is literally built inside a cave, and it’s got this magic trick where it stays a perfect 20 degrees inside, even when it’s a scorching 40 degrees outside. The architecture is what really sold me: sleeping in this cave is like having a prehistoric adventure, but with all the comforts of modern living.

Marbella Club, Spain

This place is an institution. Imagine old Hollywood vibes, but in Europe – tanned men puffing cigars and women dripping in jewels. It’s like stepping into a classic film set, with lush gardens and superb restaurants where every meal is a hit. But the real showstopper? The kids’ club. It’s super spacious, tastefully designed, and packed with activities.

Meneghetti Hotel, Bale, Croatia

I just got back from a trip to Croatia – I stayed at this hotel and I absolutely fell for it. It’s like being in the heart of the countryside, surrounded by greenery and vines everywhere. But here’s the best part: you’re also just a bike ride away from the beach, with water so clear you might start wondering if you’ve accidentally pedalled into a postcard.

Porches Pottery, Lagoa, Portugal

This pottery studio is one of a kind and it’s been my go-to for many years. I’m slowly building my collection of their quirky pieces. This place is a family-run gem where you can actually watch the artists work their magic by hand. Plus, they’ve got a lovely café on site.
