Wild At Heart
Meet Alfie Nickerson, the impossibly handsome biodynamic farmer behind the incredibly lovely Burnt Fen Flowers. Gorgeous organic blooms are the gift that keeps on giving, and since it’s gifting season, we asked Alfie to treat us to his Xmas inspo…
I’ll be cooking…
I love winter brassicas – like cabbage, broccoli and a side of leeks – with turkey as the main meat plus all the trimmings. There always have to be pigs in blankets, and you can’t beat Xmas oysters, either!
I’ll be decorating the table with…
We use a lot of dried flowers at Christmas, along with bracken and branches from the woods. We also lay out mountains of tangerines and hang a big Christmas wreath on the front door. This year, we are making our first wreaths for Burnt Fen customers, using foraged bracken and dried dahlias.
I’ll be listening to…
Mum always has Christmas carols on repeat, over and over again. When we finally get tired of that, we switch to dance music.
I’ll be watching…
Home Alone on repeat! And hopefully I’ll get to finish Yellowstone.
I’ll be wearing…
Fingers crossed Father Christmas will bring me some new socks, which I’ll wear with my favourite Niwaki trousers and a warm jumper (though definitely not a Christmas jumper).
My festive tradition…
Midnight carols with my mum and siblings.
My Christmas treat…
Eating oysters and sleeping in for as long as possible.
My Christmas smells like…
Mulled wine and cinnamon.
For me, the holidays mean…
Catching up with my friends, because Christmas is the one time of the year I get to be in London during the week. I’m also obsessed with Christmas lights.
How I’ll be giving back…
Homeless people are especially vulnerable in winter, so I’ll try to help out where I can over Christmas – be it donating food and clothes, or donating my time by working in a shelter.
