Wrapping paper roll: Tortoise Trellis, gold

Tortoiseshell is one of my all-time favourite natural patterns, and I've long been trying to recreate it using my pen and inks. I painted each tile using watercolour and the darkest sable Japanese ink to give depth and texture to the black and capture that almost reflective quality. Laid out into a golden trellis pattern, I love how this feels festive and sophisticated at once. Dare I say, it's practically a neutral?
