Great Dane

When he’s not styling hair for fashion bibles and runway shows, tending to the tresses of A-listers or collaborating with global beauty brands, renowned hairstylist and salon owner Cim Mahony returns to his native Copenhagen, home to his favourite haunts…

Culture And Sightseeing

Galleries And Museums

One of my favourite things to do is to drive along the beautiful coastal road, Strandvejen, visiting three fantastic museums along the way. Louisiana is home to Danish modern art and more; Ordrupgaard houses 19th and early 20th century Danish and French art, while Rungstedlund (otherwise known as the Karen Blixen Museum) is not just a museum and bird sanctuary, but also and a beautiful house where the author and Nobel-prize nominee Karen Blixen was born and died.

On the way back, stop at Bellevue beach for a dip in the sea and enjoy the beautiful houses in the background, designed by the celebrated Danish architect Arne Jacobsen.

A Good Walk

Most days, me and my wife Lotte Barnholdt Mahony stroll around the old army fortress Kastellet. It’s a must-do walk, beautiful in all seasons and right in the city centre.

Shopping And Grooming

Menswear

My personal favourite for shopping in Copenhagen is the menswear store Goods. Its broad selection of brands is the extremely well curated, and the combination of classic quality and impeccable old-school service makes this store a true gem.

Womenswear, Art And Lifestyle

Holly Golightly is a beautiful and eclectic store, curated by Bibi Werner, who has an expert eye for putting together fashion, art and accessories to create a universe all of her own. The store itself is a destination, but phone ahead as it is only open by appointment.

Good Reads

I love reading and Tranquebar is by far my favourite bookstore. I can spend hours browsing in here, and their recommendations have never failed me. Delicious coffee too!

Interiors

I love vintage shopping and a great deal of the furniture, art and objects owned by me and my wife Lotte are second-hand. Klassik is the ultimate store for buying vintage Danish design. Everything has been carefully restored by master craftsmen before being put up for sale.

Good Grooming

Visit us at Studio Cim Mahony for a haircut or a browse through our curated selection of holistic beauty brands, including our own sleep apparel brand, The Beauty Sleeper.

Where To Eat

A Light Lunch

Madbutikkenestin is a small and unpretentious little lunch spot that has been my go-to nearly every day for a decade. It is perfect for a healthy, light, homemade lunch. It’s also close to the canal district, Nyhavn, and the royal castle, Amalienborg, which are both boxes to be ticked when visiting Copenhagen.

A Casual Dinner

Home to the best pizza I have ever tasted (they actually make their own burrata and mozzarella), Baest has a great dining room and is also in the most happening neighbourhood in town, Nørrebro.

A Smart Dinner

This restaurant hardly needs an introduction. If, like me, you are a foodie, Noma is a must-visit when in Copenhagen. An unforgettable experience is guaranteed.
